In honour of the Late Sardar  Kartar Singh and  Mata Mohinder Kaur Dalamnangal, this fund reflects their selfless spirit and dedication to creating equitable initiatives for the community. The success in the form of wealth they  achieved was never as  important to them as the good that they could do with it. The Memorial Fund aims to provide students, organizations and exceptional members of society who are dedicated to community service with financial assistance in the hope that such funds will enable members of society to launch initiatives that give back to the community, both in Singapore and abroad.

Both Sardar Kartar Singh and Mata Mohinder Kaur Dalamnangal came from humble beginnings, as it was common for many during and after WWII in Singapore. Growing up in the kampong of Bukit Panjang and navigating a world plagued by the Japanese Occupation, they faced immense struggles due to the forces of  imperialism set against the backdrop of a rapidly changing Singapore. Overcoming challenges posed by the socio-economic climate, the couple were successful in setting up their own real estate business, which eventually flourished.

Throughout their journey as pioneering Indian entrepreneurs in Singapore,  both individuals kept sight of what was important to them:  community building.  Over the years, they have fully supported the development of  various  charities, worked  with  community leaders to dismantle barriers to access and contributed to bringing about social changes that benefited minorities and other marginalized groups in Singapore.

They felt they had a moral duty to use what they had to help others, a sentiment very much rooted in their personal values, principles and social conscience. They immersed whole-heartedly in various endeavours educating orphans and the needy, served the elderly in various institutions and  provided  widows who had to educate their children single-handedly with the necessary financial and emotional support. They acted on  these powerful feelings of service and responsibility selflessly in a way that was true to their own ethical beliefs.

They aligned their donation choices, and the type of charity work they supported, with causes that had the greatest meaning to their values. They shared their personal experience of donating to charity with their children so as to encourage them to make positive changes in the world, nurturing their innate generosity so that they could grow up with a greater appreciation of how the next generation could carry on supporting charities in years to come.

It is in loving memory of their hope for a brighter future that this fund exits, as a means to commemorate all that they have achieved and also to encourage resilience in others, while building a better future for all. It is also a way of passing along their values and passions in order to help younger generations receive better opportunities so as to make an impact in their lives and for the greater good of society.

In honour of their life, legacy and memory, the Memorial Fund offers awards to students and organizations, and aims to provide    opportunities to those who are seeking to leverage on their networks to break barriers so as to serve their community.
